What would be the most probable repercussions of Chinese app ban in India

On 29th June 2020, the Indian government banned 59 Chinese applications issuing security threat and on Tuesday china's foreign ministry's spokesperson, Mr. Zhao Lijian has given the first response to this move.Mr. Lijian said that it was "seriously concerned" by India's move and described it as " a deliberate interference in practical cooperation".

The time elapsed to get the first response shows that the Chinese government is very much shocked after witnessing such kind of move by the Indian government.

In this article, we would discuss about the most probable headwinds that are to be faced by India in the coming days. We will discuss several aspects one by one.

Trade

The recent data show that India China bilateral trade volume is approximately $81.86 billion in 2019-2020 where china enjoys a $48.6 billion trade surplus ( export volume: $16.6 billion and import volume: $65.26 billion).

If we see this by our naked eye, it looks like, the ball is in India's court to terminate the trade.

But the real scenario is totally different. India is very much dependent on China, especially on API(Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients), basic chemicals, Agro intermediates, and critical components (auto, durable, capital goods).

Chinese state-run media house already threatened India of facing the backlash in the field of export and FDI.

N.B: After the event of the 15th June border clash, china raised the price of API by 30 percent.

Hostile Neighbours

At the present time, after the outbreak of the COVID19 pandemic, this globe has been polarised by Chinese alignment and the rest of the world. Unfortunately in the Chinese alignment, the newest addition is Nepal other than most obvious Pakistan.

Since the last two months, Nepal has been continuously giving anti-India statements and following the same trend of border issues by claiming Kalapani, Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh of Uttarakhand of their own. And now it is a well-known fact that Nepal's internal politics is highly influenced by the Communist Party Of China.

Some of the satellite images show that Pakistan is deploying heavy military along the border region. Such kind of
multiple fronts of hostility including the Sino-India border are huge worrisome for India.

By the instigation of the Chinese government, these two neighbors could act according to China and make our border region more hostile.

Chinese investment

In 2019-2020 foreign direct investment (FDI) amount was shrunk to $163.78 billion
from $229 billion in 2018-2019. India received $350 billion FDI in 2017-2018. So it is not surprising that the inflow of FDI amount will be continued to shrink.

But at the same time, we should not forget that a considerable amount of Indian start-up's stake is being held by a Chinese company. If they withdraw the investment, the conditions of the start-ups would not be pleasant at all.

Weaponising Of Water

Some important Indian rivers originated in China. Like Brahmaputra, Koshi, Sutlej originated from Tibet and flow into India. Since the last few decades, China has been ramping up its dam-building agenda for the development of its own country. Under the veil of dam building, China has accomplished a major step to manipulate the river water and use it as a modern weapon.

Along the border region mainly on the Brahmaputra, China built up several dams and those are huge matters of concern for India and Bangladesh as China has the capability to make the flood and drought situation worst. China has done this trick not only for India but also for its other neighbors like Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, etc too.

Now the question is whether India can able to handle China single-handedly or it is the time for India to be aligned with the USA and western countries or with another superpower group.
